Sr. Regina Delaney was born on October 28th  in Elmhurst, New York to James and Emily.   She grew up in Howard Beach and entered the Ursuline community at 18 years old because of the example set by the Sisters at Our Lady of Grace and their ministry of teaching.  She was originally known as Sr. Immaculata.
 
With a BS in Education from St. John’s University, a MS in Science from St. Joseph’s College, and a MA in Latin from Villanova University, Sr. Regina shared her love of knowledge and learning for the rest of her life.  She taught at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Ozone Park), Our Lady of Grace (Howard Beach), St. Thomas the Apostle and Holy Family High School (Huntington), and served as principal of St. Thomas the Apostle (West Hartford), St. Gregory the Great (Bellerose), and St. Mary Star of the Sea (Far Rockaway). 
 
Sr. Regina then returned to Nativity BVM as a librarian and administrative assistant and as the Director of Religious Education at St. Benedict Joseph Labre in Richmond Hill. She also served the Ursuline community as Councilor for the Provincial government.  An avid learner and reader in retirement, she had a vast interest in outer space and a personal concern for all animals.  She also continued to take theology courses offered at the Cathedral Seminary House of Formation.
 
Known for her extraordinary kindness and encouragement of others, her friend, Sr. Mary Lou Tressy has said that Sr. Regina always showed a "genuine interest in others and happiness in their achievements." 
 
She spent the last few years of her life at the Maria Regina Residence, surrounded by other Sisters and friends, including her sister, Genevieve.  When she passed away on January 23, 2026, she had been an Ursuline Sister for 83 years.

The Ursuline Sisters will celebrate the life of Sr. Regina Delaney on Friday, February 6^th with a wake from 9:45am to 10:45am at Our Lady of the Snow in Blue Point, NY.  Her funeral will immediately follow.
